Privacy
What's stored, what isn't, and how to delete it.
Study Hall is a school planner made by one person. As things stand there is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind on these pages, and no third-party scripts. If that ever changes, this page will be updated to say exactly what changed and what it means for you, before it takes effect.
You can use it without an account
Signed out, everything stays in your own browser and nothing is sent anywhere. An account exists only so your planner can follow you between a phone and a laptop.
If you do make an account
Stored on our server:
- — Your email address, used only to sign you in.
- — Your planner: assignments, activities, sports, to-dos and goals, as you typed them.
- — If you join the friends board: a display name you choose, a friend code, and who you are friends with.
- — If you turn on reminders: which browser to notify and at what time, in your timezone.
- — If you use the email address in Mailroom: that address, and any forwarded item until your app collects it.
- — If you join a class: which classes you are in, and anything you choose to share with them. Classmates see the title, the course and the date, plus your display name against what you added — never your notes, your grades, or whether you have done it.
- — If you subscribe a calendar: the secret link that feed uses. Anyone who has that link can see your titles, dates and times — never your grades — so treat it like a password and make a new one if it gets out.
Your password is never sent to us
It is scrambled in your browser first, and only the scrambled result travels — which we then scramble again before storing. Nobody here can read your password or work it out, which is also why nobody here can reset it for you. That is what the recovery code on your account page is for.
What friends can see
Only the display name you chose and four numbers for the week: how much you finished, how much was on time, your XP and your streak. Friends never see your email address, your assignment titles, your courses or your grades. You can only be added by someone who has your friend code, so nobody can find you by searching.
Photos stay on your device
Pictures you add are kept in your browser's own storage and are never uploaded, not even when you are signed in.
Where it lives
On Cloudflare's servers, which is where this site runs. Backups exist for up to seven days so a mistake can be undone, after which they are gone.
Getting your data, or deleting it
Take a full copy any time from Import / back up — it downloads as a plain file you keep. To erase everything stored against your account, use Delete account on your account page. It removes your planner, your friends, your board numbers, your reminders and your login, and it cannot be undone. The copy in your own browser is left alone.
Age
Study Hall is meant for secondary-school students. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before making an account. If you are a parent and would like an account removed, write to the address below and it will be deleted.
Asking about any of this
Write to thestudyhall.net@gmail.com.
If this page ever stops matching what the app does, the app is wrong and it will be fixed.
